Wayang Kulit

Wayang Kulit is the traditional shadow puppet theater of Java. A performance includes music, dance (by the puppets!), poetry, dialog, drama, comedy, action, romance, all within traditional epic tales of the struggle between good and evil. The puppeteer provides all the narration and dialog, as well as singing songs and providing sound effect for the drama. He is accompanied by the gamelan, the Indonesian percussion orchestra.

In Java, a performance of wayang kulit can be expected to last up to nine hours. Our performances are somewhat shorter than that. A full scale perfomance suitable for concert halls, night clubs, weddings, birthdays or bar mitzvahs runs about 1 1/2 hours. We can also scale things back if the situation requires.
