Instrumentation

The main body of instruments played by Gamelan Sari Pandhawa were made by Pak Tentem in Surakarta in 1995 and are in the slendro scale (laras). They arrived here in Eugene, OR in July, 1996. We recently (December 1998) added some pelog instruments to our collection. The instruments and their general descriptions are listed below. Instruments are slendro unless marked otherwise. Instruments not made by Pak Tentrem are annotated as such.

Tuning

The instruments of Gamelan Sari Pandhawa are in the Slendro scale, a pentatonic scale whose members are numbered 1, 2, 3, 5, 6; and the Pelog scale whose members are numbered 1 - 7. The tuning of these pitches is approximately as follows:
