To clearly see what's going on in a chart, each planet and point needs to be located in its exact degree of the zodiac. It is not enough that the planets show up in the correct houses. Sometimes it is not easy to determine even simple relationships between planets with a chart that is drawn "approximately." If a chart is accurately drawn, you will be able to measure aspects. Planets in a grand trine will form an elegant equilateral triangle. Planets in a grand cross will form a perfect square. The so-called "major" aspects are easily found because they will all be located at or near the same degree, such as 18 degrees of Gemini and 18 degrees of Virgo. "Major" aspects tell what is obvious: what people do. But if you want to know the whole person, you will have to include the "minor" aspects, or as I call them, the "harmonics." Harmonics are part of why east Indian astrology is so accurate. And harmonics are what Indian astrologers use to match couples for marriage, based on the joy they share between them. I believe the "minors" were given back seat because simply they are not easy to figure out in your head. For instance, a quintile (5th harmonic) is 72 degrees or 144 degrees. A septile (7th harmonic) is 51.43 or 102.86 or . . . you see what I mean. But "minor" aspects are not minor; they are important! They tell what people are behind their masks, their actions. They tell what people are in their hearts. They tell what they love to do, what they are good at, what brings them joy. Harmonics tell the story of the poetic, creative, receptive side of the person. Midpoint trees indicate the most important planets in the chart. When the chart is drawn accurately, you will be able to find midpoints visually. And midpoint trees (series of midpoints that all share the same axis) become obvious. When you find a midpoint tree, you will know that this is the backbone of the chart. You can safely emphasize these qualities. Your clients and friends will be enthusiastically, emphatically nodding their heads when you read their charts. Event charts become clear and obvious.
