Mount Pisgah Arboretum Summer Camp-where your children
enjoy summer days in nature! Mount Pisgah Arboretum, between the slopes of
Mount Pisgah and the Coast Fork of the Willamette River, is a living museum
with diverse ecological habitats-from riparian meadows and savannas to open
plateaus and forested hillsides. Campers will hike, play games, build a
wilderness shelter, create things from nature, explore meadows, creeks, and
ponds, and indulge in an afternoon Ice Cream Social. And we won't forget
those traditional activities that make summer camp SUMMER CAMP-camp songs,

Session Topics & Schedule 2008
Each
camp session runs Monday–Friday, 9am to 4pm. Extended care is available from 8-9am and 4-5pm.

Session 1 June 23 – 27
All Creatures
Great and Small
Fascinated by animals? This camp is
for you! From tiny bugs like the springtail, to black-tailed deer, the
creatures on Mount Pisgah are all around us. Where are the turtles found? Who
dives for fish in the river? What does the slug eat for dinner? We’ll explore
all the wildife, make animal track casts, build bird houses, have a slug race
and more!
Session 2 July 7 – 11
Survivor: Mount
Pisgah 1
The most popular session at Mount
Pisgah returns for a third year! Here’s your chance to work together with
fellow campers to be your best and learn to survive in the wild. Daily
challenges will include wilderness skills, physical feats, and friendly competitions.
It takes teamwork to be a tribe on Mt. Pisgah . No one is voted off this mountain!
Session 3 July 14 – 18
DaVinci Kids
Like Leonardo, explore the mysteries
and magic of the world around us. Build a mini hot air balloon, predict the weather
with handmade guages, sketch Mount Pisgah’s tiny critters as seen under the
microscope, and stretch your creativity to the limit with challenges like egg
drops and toothpick bridges. examine the wonders of nature through science and
art!
Session 4 July 21 – 25
Survivor: Mount
Pisgah 2
A second session of our most popular
camp! Join our tribe of campers as you challenge both mind and body to overcome
obstacles in the woods. Hike to the other side of the mountain, wander the
watershed, and find hidden treasure with map and compass. Explore how the real
survivors on Mount Pisgah - the plants and animals - compete in the big Web of
Life!
Session 5 July 28 – August
1
Blast from the
Past!
Get a taste of what life used to be
like - explore the Indian way of living close to the earth, and see how the
early pioneers met their challenges. Start a fire with two sticks, make your own
soap, fashion a walking stick, stitch a leather pouch, and pick blueberries to
make your own fruit leather. We’ll even make a camp sundial! This is a great
camp for kids who love adventure and history!
Registration
Fill
out the registration
form or contact the Arboretum office. A completed form and a $25 deposit is
needed to reserve a place for your camper. Full payment is due three weeks
prior to the camp session. Call Fran Rosenthal, Camp Director, at (541)
747-1504 with any questions.

Camp
Session: M-F, 9am-4pm
$170 members (includes annual parking pass)
$200 non-members (must purchase daily $2 parking pass)
Thursday Night Campout: $20
Scholarships Available
Thanks to a fund set up by Lane County, through a grant from
the Secure Rural Schools Act, scholarships are available for those in need. One
session per family. Fill out and submit the application form or call the
Arboretum office.
Withdrawal
You
may withdraw your child up to 2 weeks before camp starts for a full refund.
Within two weeks of the session, you will be charged a $50 withdrawal fee. No
fee charged for switching sessions. Please contact us ASAP if you must withdraw
your child- so kids on the waiting list can sign up.
Age and Group Size
Each
week-long camp session accommodates up to 28 campers, 7-11 years old. Based on
enrollment, the group may be divided between "youngers" (7-8) and
"olders" (9-11). Group size is limited to 14 with a maximum
camper/staff ratio of 7:1.
Camp Staff
Mount
Pisgah Arboretum's camp staff is carefully screened to ensure a high-quality
experience for your child. Our leaders have experience working with children
and are sensitive to their needs. Pre-camp staff training assures that camp will
be a fun and safe place. All lead staff must pass a criminal background check
and be certified in First Aid and CPR. Support staff includes activity
specialists, adult volunteers, and teenaged assistants.
Teen Volunteers Needed
Teens
14-18 may apply to be camp assistants. Experience working with children
preferred. Training provided. Earn community service hours. Must be available
for a minimum of two sessions. Call to request an application.
Skilled Adults Needed
Have
an outdoor skill, nature craft, or fun project you'd enjoy sharing with
campers? We love to have community members enhance our campers' experience!

Thursday Night Campout
This
is your child's chance to camp at Mount Pisgah! Join us for a BBQ, camp songs,
a campfire with toasted marshmallows, and a night hike (where we might hear an
owl and see bats). Then we'll crawl into our tents and fall sleep listening to
the Coast Fork of the Willamette River.
