NOTES:
1. Owing to the fact that some of the records of the
Church of St. Bonifatius are incomplete for the period 1680 - 1703, it was
not possible to positively locate any records of his baptism or that of
his wife.
A marriage which took place on February 8, 1700 in Lingen involved a
Henricus Wesselinck and a Grethe
Berckensmitt. That marriage was not the first for either one. She may
have been originally from Heitel in the parish of Plantlünne
and may have died in 1719.
2. The Trauungsbuch from the Church of St. Bonifatius
neither provides any information about the places of their origins nor the
names of their parents. However, her parents may have been Joannes Brögber and
Walburgis (Wobbeken) Vedder, who had been married on
February 10, 1698.
According to Herr Tenfelde, the groom was from Estringen and the bride
was from Laxten. Also, Tenfelde stated that this marriage was the first
one for each person.
Tenfelde's sources of information are not known, but he may have used
information from the Lingen parish of the Reformed Church.
3. Tenfelde included as sponsors Hindrick Wesselink
and Anna Marg. Brögber.
4. Tenfelde included as a sponsor Anna Marg.
Brögber.
5. Tenfelde included as a sponsor Anna
Marg. Brögber.
Anna Marg. Lübbers was from Brockhausen. On May 25, 1732 in
Lingen she married Jan Hinrick
Brögber, who became the heir to Brögbers Hof in
Laxten.
6. Tenfelde included as a sponsor Margaretha
Brögber.
Gesina Aleidis may have been Aleÿde Wessels, the wife of
Wilhelm Brögber.
7. Tenfelde included as a sponsor Margaretha
Brögber.
8. Given the similarity in surnames she may have been
related to the child's maternal grandmother.
9. According to the parish's records it was noted that he
had been a witness in 1767 at his sister's marriage and had been a sponsor
in 1768 for a child of Johannes Krieger and Catharina Aleidis Wesseling.
Also, he was a witness at the 1770 marriage of Joes Henricus Krieger and Euphemia Maria Kuhl.
10. He may have been the husband of Gertrudis Brögber, who
had married on September 17, 1730 in Lingen.
ANALYSIS:
If Hermannus had been from Estringen, assume that as a younger son
that he would not have been the heir and would have been expected to leave
the family's property when the heir married. Hermannus married a woman
from Laxten whose family had provided them with a Heuerstelle on
or near Brögbers Hof. After the deaths of their parents in
1749, it appears that none of the surviving children remained there.
The strength of the relationship with the Brögber family of
Laxten is reinforced by the very evident names of the baptismal
sponsors. Assume that Anna Margaretha was one of at the 7 children of
Johannes Brögber and Wobbeken Vedder and that at least 2 sisters, the
wife of a brother, the husband of a sister, and possibly the wife of another
brother were all sponsors for her children. Additionally, another sponsor
seems to have been related to Anna Margaretha's maternal side of her
family.
Yet there were at the most only 2 sponsors who were named Wesselinck.
One reason for such a discrepancy might be that Hermannus' family was not
from Laxten which would give more credence to the fact that he was from
Estringen. Assume that Hindrick was a brother rather that the father of
Hermannus (and the same person who married Aleidis Brögber in 1733)
because the child for whom he acted as a sponsor was a daughter.
Assume that Joes (Johannes) was Hermannus' father (Joes' wife was
Margaretha Over) and that Joes was not the heir to the property in
Estringen, although he had been a son of
Wichardus Wesselinck.
