The following topics relate to some of the activities and interests of our
ancestors which took place in both Lingen a. d. Ems and in
Boston, Massachusetts.
The information contained in
the Neubauerei files
concerns how the family acquired a small farm in Lingen Stadtflur.
Documents of ownership from 1835 through 1882 as well some interesting maps can
be found within those files. The Table of Contents has a more comprehensive
description of those materials.
In Boston a number of our Wessling relatives were were employed by the
Whiting - Adams Co. brush
making firm. This subject matter deals mainly with the history of the company
and the families which controlled the business from its inception until it was
acquired by the Star Brush Mfg. Co. in the 1930's. Company literature featured
an illustration of Henry Wessling at work.
Several of our ancestors were instrumental in the founding and operation of
the The Germania Co-operative Bank.
We discuss not only that organization but also its 2 predecessors - the
German Savings Bank and the German Loan & Fund Association.
The Roxbury section of Boston was the home to a number of Wesslings
and their relatives. In particular, there was a neighborhood in Boston
Highlands where most of them had congregated. We were able to locate many
details regarding the development of the area
surrounding Fulda Street.
Lastly, some facts were assembled on the short history of a group calling
themselves the Germania Association of
Roxbury.
