NOTES

Not all sources agree on the amount of money in each bill that was for the wars. Apparently that is somewhat open to interpretation.

HR 2863 - Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2006. $45 billion for Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Article

HR 4939 - Supplemental. $70 billion for Iraq war. Peace Action, in its 2006 Scorecard, said, "It’s important to note that the 21 senators that voted against the bill did so because of procedural and pork barrel spending concerns, not because of opposition to the war in Iraq." Article. DeFazio's EW column justifying his vote.

HR 5122 - National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007. $70 billion for wars. Article

HR 1585 - National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008. $187 billion for wars. Article

HR 1591 - Supplemental. $124 billion for Iraq war. Non-binding timeline for Iraq withdrawal. MoveOn supported it. Other peace groups opposed it.

HR 2206 - Supplemental. $94 billion for wars. No withdrawal timeline. In the House the vote was split into two amendments, one for domestic and one for war funding, with no final vote on the whole package. The House vote listed above is for amendment 2, on the war funding. The final vote in the Senate was on the whole package. Articles: 1 2 3

HR 2764 - Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2008. $31 billion for Afghanistan and $39 billion for Iraq. No withdrawal timeline.

HR 4156 - Supplemental. $50 billion for the war. Non-binding withdrawal goal. Insufficient votes to overcome Senate filibuster. Analysis  Also this and this.

HR 4986 - National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008. $187 billion for the wars. Article

HR 5658 - National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009. $70 billion for wars. Probably will not be voted on by the Senate. Instead Congress will pass a "continuing resolution" to keep Defense spending at its current level until the next Congress meets in January, 2009. Analysis

HR 2642 - Supplemental. $165 billion for Iraq war. Non-binding withdrawal goal didn't make it past the Senate, so wasn't in the final version that the House voted on. Probably last war funding vote until 2009. Analysis
