GARY KUTCHER HAS POLITICAL KNOW-HOW

Gary Kutcher has been involved in public affairs since moving to Lane County in 1981. He has worked extensively with non-profit groups lobbying for consumer rights, environmental protection and social justice. Through his work, Gary has developed important skills including:

ACCOUNTING SKILLS -- As a board member of several non-profit organizations, Gary has been responsible for overseeing organization finances. He has done bookkeeping and budgeting and has filed financial reports.

SKILLS AS A RESEARCHER -- Gary has learned how to get to the root of problems, develop creative solutions to those problems, and implement those solutions.

SKILLS AS SPOKESPERSON -- Gary has learned how to approach those in positions to effect a change and how to work cooperatively in a group. He understands the importance of diplomacy, as well as when to stand up for basic rights.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZER -- Gary works well with representatives of many community organizations that are struggling with issues related to basic human rights. He recognizes the importance of reaching out to these groups to utililize their special expertise.

HONESTY AND INTEGRITY -- Gary is up front about where he stands on the issues. Even when you don’t agree with his views, you can count on Gary to listen to your point of view and to try to come up with a solution that works for all. MANAGEMENT SKILLS -- Gary understands the importance of good employee relations with an emphasis on mutual respect and job responsibility. In addition to working in cooperatively-run businesses, Gary has worked in a variety of more traditionally run businesses.

PUBLIC OUTREACH SKILLS -- Gary has worked extensively doing public education and outreach, including work as a newspaper editor. He believes in keeping citizens informed of government policies and in the necessity of incorporating citizen input into public decision-making.
