Petition:
You can directly affect the outcome for the East Fork Amazon Headwaters Forest by sending a petition to the local city council. Please follow the instructions below to send a copy of the petition to any or all of the board members.
The main body of the petition reads as follows:
I am opposed to the development of a 40 acre
native forest, located between Nectar Way, Garnet and
Dillard Road, in the south hills of Eugene, Oregon. We support
preserving this forest for wildlife habitat, open space and
connection to the Ridgeline trail.
This forest contains the east fork of the Amazon headwaters,
wetlands, riparian wildlife habitat, diverse vegetation and
trees that include stands of Grand Fir and rare plants (Aster vialis
and Tall Bugbane). It also is home to Pileated Woodpeckers
and the Red-Legged Frog. It is steep and generally unsuitable for
development. I am concerned of the threat to water
quality, storm-water retention, the potential of landslides, loss of
habitat, loss of the potential passive recreation and connection
to the Ridgeline Trial System and the added traffic this development
would bring. 110 houses equals 1100 added daily trips
up Hilyard and East Amazon. All of that combined, the preservation of
this native forest is critical.
