Purpose
& Goals
IPM ACCESS is a networking and information service website
of the IPM Practitioners Association (or IPMPA) that provides IPM practitioners and
other interested people with the opportunity to find, share, and
develop effective, economical, and environmentally sound
approaches for the management of vegetation and pests, primarily
in non-agricultural resource settings. IPM ACCESS has been a continually operating service freely
available on the World Wide Web since 1995, making it one of the
pioneers in the use of the Internet for the widespread
dissemination of information about "urban IPM".
Our vision for IPM ACCESS is that its primary purpose is to serve as a clearinghouse, pointing you to people, organizations, literature, and other websites, thus saving you much of the time and effort in locating these resources; as well as a dynamic and up-to-date source for IPM-related information, news and networking in and of itself.
Funding: Developing and maintaining a website such as IPM ACCESS involves a great deal of time and effort. We need funding for further development and administration of the website in general, to keep the information and links current, and to moderate and maintain the forums.
Our long-term goal is for IPM ACCESS to be funded through three primary sources: 1.) IPMPA memberships and donations, 2.) grants from governmental agencies and private foundations; and 3.) informative advertising of IPM-related products and services, which you may well be interested in knowing about anyway. Until we reach enough of a critical mass of users and development of the website to interest advertisers, we must rely on grants and you, the people that use IPM ACCESS, for funding. We need for people who think this is a worthy cause to sign up for memberships and/or make donations toward the operation and development of IPM ACCESS. The IPMPA is a non-profit organization and is reliant upon the support of people and organizations interested in environmentally sound approaches to resource management. We are committed to making IPM ACCESS one of the most useful and comprehensive IPM information sites on the Internet. To do so we need your help!
We receive a fairly significant volume of e-mail requesting information regarding specific pest control problems. We regret that we are simply unable at this time to answer most of these requests because the bulk of our efforts are directed toward the ongoing development and administration of IPM ACCESS and working on specific projects. Although we do not rule out the possibility of being able to routinely answer such requests in the future, we'd like to facilitate networking amongst users of IPM ACCESS through our Open Forums so that various experts in the field will be able to answer your questions directly. Our web-based conferencing system provides an easy-to-use interface for communication and information exchange.
We invite your participation and feedback and encourage you to share your materials and ideas and to help support the IPMPA in advancing IPM technologies by providing access to helpful and educational information.
Contents
The Information Files are a library of tools and materials
that support networking, IPM education, and IPM policy and
program development and implementation. Included are IPM
Resources (e.g., people, organizations, products, publications),
examples of administrative guidelines (i.e., IPM policy and
program models), general IPM prescriptions for a variety of
vegetation and pest management requirements and problems, and a
directory of links to other useful Internet sites. Feedback from
users help to update and improve these files.
The Open Forum is a place where users may conduct a direct exchange of information, expertise, and ideas on any relevant topic they choose.
Send your comments and contributions via the link that can be found at the bottom of most pages.
