Mom came out to visit in March 2005, and we took her to the Oregon coast for the weekend. The weather was unseasonably mild with plenty of sunshine and virtually no wind. We took our time travelling to Yachats, stopping along the way to have a picnic, take in some views of the Heceta Head Lighthouse and explore the tidepools at the Strawberry Hill.
We spent the night in Yachats at the Yachats Inn and had a nice dinner at The Drift Inn. The following morning we head back down Highway 101 with a stop at the Cape Perpetua Lookout, built in during the depression by the CCC and also used during WWII to spot Japanese subs. It is also a great place to look for migrating gray whales. We were lucky enough to spot one on its way to Alaska where they feed for the summer. Finally, we stopped at Honeyman State Park, south of Florence, for a nice picnic in beautiful weather.
