Our Trip to Lakeside, Ohio

In July, we took a trip to Ohio to visit Jeffrey's parents. A few years ago, his parents bought a cottage in the community of Lakeside located on the shores of Lake Erie. Lakeside is an intentional community founded in the late nineteenth century by a group of Methodist preachers. Over time it transformed itself from a simple tent camp to a small town. During the 1890's, Lakeside adopted a growing model for such communities referred to generically as chautauquas. Chautauqua was the term adopted for resorts that blend summer recreation with religious observance, education, and culture. This model has Persevered for over a century and is a large part of what makes Lakeside so unique.
