Four weeks after our last trip to Diamond Peak, we returned with our friend Kevin Richardson. The snowpack in Oregon had diminished significantly from its above normal levels at the end of the winter. We weren't sure how good the conditions would be, but some heavy snowfall before the weekend stuck around for us to enjoy.
The weather was extremely variable. We began the climb in the clouds, with the view of Diamond Peak completely obscurred. As we began to approach treeline, the clouds lifted completely to give us our first glimpse of the mountain (and the fact that I had navigated us WAY off course). The last 2000 feet to the summit saw the clouds and sun battle it out for dominance. The sun prevailed, and we were rewarded with a wonderful view of Diamond Peak and some of the surrounding hills.
