Wallowa Ski Trip 2004

We spent the first part of Spring Break 2004 with good friends in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The wilderness is located in the Wallowa Mountain range in northeastern Oregon. Greta, Scott Mayers and I set out from Eugene on March 19th with an evening rendevous in Portland to join Kevin Richardson, Jen Bigley and Jeremy Coate. We left Portland the following morning for a seven hour drive to the town of Joseph at the base of the Wallowa mountains. We were joined there by Dave Menegus of Bend, Oregon and Carsten McCarter of Kalispell, Montana.

On Sunday morning we met with Roger Averbeck of Wing Ridge Ski Tours at the Wildflour Bakery in Joseph. Roger gave us a detailed snowpack analysis and avalanche forecast as well as some tips on good ski terrain. From the bakery we proceeded to the trailhead and began the 4 mile ski to the shelter.

The remainder of Sunday and Monday were spent in the following manner: eat, ski, drink, sleep, eat, ski, eat, drink, sleep. Not a bad way to spend a few days! The weather was wonderful, the company was unsurpassed, and the food was out of this world (thanks Jen!). Thanks to all for a great trip.
