AUGUST 9, 1999 E.V.I. BUSINESS MEETING

Ed opened the meeting at 6:35 p.m. with the Serenity Prayer.

ATTENDANCE: 24 representatives --- 51 + total

Angel moved to accept the agenda, Linda seconded, motion passed.

FINANCIAL REPORT - Frank - Contributions are way up, partly because of the groups that contribute quarterly. Faithful fivers doing real good. Our assets are up.

OFFICE VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR - Bill - There will be a flyer for the E.V.I. Picnic. Still looking for volunteers with 90 days + sobriety. Things are going good at the office, moving ahead.

LITERATURE - Chris for Wendy - Meetings the last day of the month at 5:30 p.m.. Looking for help.

ANSWERING SERVICE - Johanna - There is a new 12 step sign-up list. Meetings are held first Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the E.V.I. office. Looking for help.

ARCHIVIST - Linda - Everything is going good. Getting the newsletters organized. Need pictures of the `Old Timers' for a history book. Everything is perfect.

P.I. - Barney - Looking to get books into major bookstores etc.. Checking on radio and t.v. ads. Need assistance in getting public service ads.

C.P.C. - Angel - Attempting to establish a working program to integrate with the courts and violators. Meeting with the courthouse committee went smoothly. Will meet with Judge Cole later this month.

ACTIVITIES - Myron - Meeting at Lamb's Cottage this Friday at 7:30 p.m.. There will be a `Little Guy's' raffle at the picnic. There will be a speaker and possibly a chance for committee chairs to share for 5 - 10 minutes.

EVI NEWS - Tim - Newsletter will be in the E.V.I. Office.

SPEAKERS MEETING - Terry - Meetings are still crowded and going well. Co-chair John rotated into the chair position. Turned in a financial report. Have $2662.64. Prudent reserve is $2000.00. Committee decided to give any money over the prudent reserve to E.V.I. on a quarterly basis.

OUTREACH - Peggy - Need volunteers. Had 8 people sing up. Meetings held first Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the E.V.I. Office.

H & I - Gus - Hospital chair position has been vacated. Michael J. is the psych. ward coordinator. Harold is chair, Gus is secretary. Meeting last Wednesday at 6:00 p.m..

STEERING COMMITTEE - Ed - Lost the minutes in the computer. Finance committee, By-laws committee and relocation committee did not meet.

--> Agenda Item to accept the new by-laws as proposed.

--> Mel moved that we adopt the new by-laws as proposed, but that items 4. c and d be moved to line 3. Don seconded. Discussion followed in regards to the line items. it was decided by group conscience to change items c and d to e and f. Mel rescinded the line item section of the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

--> Agenda item to accept part "A", the rotation of committee chairs. Very good discussion pro and con. Linda called for the question. 24 yes, 8 no. Minority opinion. Re-vote 20 yes, 10 no, motion passed.

--> Agenda item to accept part "A", rotation of Steering Committee chairs. Discussion about wording and some other small points. 22 yes, 9 no. Minority opinion. No change of vote. Motion passed.

Bill N. offered thanks to the committee for all their hard work on the by-laws.

--> Brian proposed a legal point. The term "Steering Committee" may need to be changed to "Board of Directors" to satisfy state nomenclature. Allen seconded. Proposal passed unanimously.

--> Harold moved to add Corrections Committee to the by-laws under item 4.d.. Don H. seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

We need new chairs for hospitals, speakers and activities.

--> Gus moved to give the steering committee full power to carry out all the operating of the intergroup. Michael seconded. Very lengthy discussion. Issues of integrity and trust were brought up. Linda called for the question. 11 yes, 17 no. Motion defeated.

--> Gus moved to table the motion and take it back to the groups. Don seconded. Long discussion. Don called for the question. Motion passed. Minority opinion Re-vote 12 yes, 14 no. more discussion. Linda called for the question. No quorum

Gus moved to adjourn. Ed closed the meeting at 8:36 p.m. with the serenity prayer.
