Volunteers Needed

Like with many organizations we could not function without our amazing and gracious volunteers. A big thanks to those that stepped up to the plate last year!

If you can volunteer, please contact Patricia Donahue: 686-6117

This is the most urgent area that EFS is in need of volunteers:

We're looking for some dance openers (dance openers for that evening get into the dance for free) and we're hoping that you check out your schedule and see what date would work for you to help open the dance. Just a reminder, there is a house manager in charge, so if you have any questions or something comes up you can refer to that person. Cool isn't it? Please feel free to call Patricia at 686-6117 or email me if you you're interested. Once again we couldn't do it without you and your help does make a difference!

If being a dance opener isn't your thing, perhaps there is another job you would like to do? Here are some other ways you can volunteer:

Thanks in advance for stepping up!

EFS Contra Dances

EFS puts on contradances at Ceasar Chavez School, 1510 W 14th (Google Map) on 2nd and 4th Saturdays through the school year. (Sept thru June).

Saturday, October 25th: Sue Baker calling with music by The Nettles (Corvallis).

Sue Baker began calling here in Eugene in 2000, after being sent by EFS to Larry Edelman's calling class at Pinewoods Camp. After years of calling locally and booking the talent for the Eugene contra dances, Sue moved to Hood River. She rarely has a chance to come down and call for us.

The Nettles "play fiery music that blends traditional Irish and American music with modern spices. Laura Brophy's powerful fiddling forms strong yet lyrical melodies punctuated by wild improvisation. The Nettles are propelled by the mighty rhythm engine of Kevin Johnsrude on guitar, Michael Proctor on bass and drummers Brian Bucolo, Doug Narry or Ankush Vimawala."

Thursday, November 6th: George Marshall calling with music by Wild Asparagus.

Wild Asparagus is a five-person band from Western Massachusetts. Drawing upon music from New England, the British Isles, and Canada, as well as classical sources, Wild Asparagus takes an original approach to the traditional dance music of our folk heritage. Using their unique blend of instruments, creativity, and skills, they offer a sensitive and powerful performance. Since 1984, Wild Asparagus has been highly successful in bringing their music to dances and concerts throughout the United States.

Saturday November 22th: Erik Weberg calling with Cascade Crossing

Saturday December 13th: Gordy Euler calling with a George Penk Band
