‘Mr. Raw’ Permaculture homestead in Hawaii

I’ve known Chitta for 10 yrs. in Kapoho, Puna, Hawaii in 3 Permaculture jungle homesteads. He’s commited to practice raw food diet for a decade & evolved into totallly raw for last 8+ years, near other raw foodists at Pangaia community of friends. We’ve been friends for about 10 years, that i’ve been visiting & camping in his land for months, learning his raw life.
Chitta is unique in many ways now being a 53 year old natural hippy
on his PC homestead he’s pioneered with great focus & effort. He grew natural from a middle class Jewish childhood in U$ graduating from public schools & college in engineering. He worked at that a 9 months, until he got stoned & aware, & dropped out. Then he went to so. Cali. where he lived mostly outdoors for 20 years, the last 10 in Hawaii. He’s grown his tropical homestead engineering steadily, often consulting with neighbors.
I began visiting him in 1991, to help me learn Permaculture & raw food.
In ‘98 his mother bot him 3 acers of virgin rainforest on Papaya farms rd. near Pangaia where he lived a couple years. AinaOla is on 1+ ft. deep 40+ year old overgrown cinder-land which became rainforest, with a few huge mango trees give great shade & make fertile soil. With a young latino man, they worked hard for a year to hand-clear AinaOla to plant many fruit trees, build the multi-tarp camps, make trails, etc. They piled up 100s of ‘weed tree’ trunks & branches in burms, making a wandering maze of trails around to plant, tend, enjoy & harvest fruit. A small driveway was bull-dozed & they built a large cement rainwater-catchment.
He moved there 2 years ago to live & host guests, especially into raw foods. Next an open-air garage & small-cabin were built for Chitta’s mother & friends to stay in. He’s gradually growing tarp-camps to serve as multi-purpose shelters, most open & 2 screened-in bedrooms. In winter ‘98/99 I began a vegie garden, digging up 100s of weeds & roots for salad greens, which was greatly enlarged & double-dug by Ano in fall of ‘99.
100s have visited AinaOla & some stayed to work, learn & heal there, enjoying the blessings of nature in community. There’s a campfire heated hotub, 2 out-door showers, a dialog area, office/TV/compuer space & 2 open bed camps. Chitta is a strong healthy, stable & reliable, skilled & inventive worker. He does frequent networking in community, commited to help neighbors growing more naturally raw. He’s published a positive invitation for guests who are seeking the healthy raw food life & does lots of internet & email now to further peaceful cooperative community here.
