CHIKIDO & Chi-Kung CONSCIOUS BREATHING
Chi-kung/Ki-Gong/Qi Kung evolved anciently in China & few shamanic
traditions around earth. It's revival in China & US spawned 3-4000
schools of Chi-kung, & 100s millions doing Tai Chi routines, mostly in
China. It also started Kung Fu, Tai Quan Do & Aikido from the natural
energy flowing thru all our bodies, we can use. Chi-kung massage also
done in China & with many acupuncture treatments, as Moxa & cups used.
All real Chi-kung helps us feel, open up & balance our inner energy
flows for health living in harmony with nature. Chikido is a new branch
of Chi-kung, being more playful, spontaneous, flexible, fun & Organic
experimenting with moving like cats, dogs, fish & birds do playing with
bodies in space as needed, no plan or time clocks, just sensing what
needs to strech NOW~!
However in US a few new branches have sprouted: Touch for Health,
Polarity therapy & yoga, Rolfing, Kundalini & flow yoga, Brain Gym &
any streching & breathing together to balance ones body energy fields.
To deepen the rebalancing we meditate during or after the movements.
Many Taoist temples have Chi-kung halls & sessions at certain times
daily & weekly instruction to learn. Macrobiotics & Zen Shiatzu from
Japan, & Do In/Tao Yin from France from '70s are like Chi Kung with
conscious breathing.
Conscious breathing is essential to Chi-kung in moving & stilling in
meditation; & during acupuncture & Chiropractic adjustments, especially
with the exhale. Deep breathing ain't promoted apart from moving & body
energy work with massage, needles & yoga. But some yogas are too stiff
or not coordinating with breathing. Chi-kung breathing is even done
walking, as the Sufis do in rhythmical walking in circles, is very
grounding, centering & balancing, as most Chi-kung is.
Unique approaches to conscious breathing began in US, UK & India in
early '70s with 'rebirthing' natural self healing in US (Orr & Ray) &
UK with R.D. Laing MD underground. We at Universing center family
began doing Primal scream therapy, deep massage & conscious breathing
together in '73 & Rebirthing in '75. However yoga & Chi-kung have
missed or omitted instinctual 'rebirthing' breath (babies do) in their
practice.
Many other breathing ways they use, but not the deep chest-breath,
laying down to open up ones heart, soul & emotions, releasing old
witheld tensions, fears & pain, like Primal scream therapy does. See
