WHAT
IS SUSTAINABILITY NOW?
Balancing
elements, needs & resources?
Nature is sustainable & constantly recycling &
changing is obvious in weather & geology, but invisible in microcosmos of
microbes, soil, worms, DNA, insects, dust, sea life & most non-visible
radiation & magnetic frequencies we can feel?
SUSTAINBABLE
means continuing something thatÕs long lasting. But is it renewable like soil or limited like minerals? And
how long it functions? how &
for what costs & benefits, needs & results? Who & what needs does it serve, fill or hurt in its
intended design functions, or accidental consequences? Who designed, built, set
up, improved & maintains the system? at what costs? To us &
nature? With what secret &or
public purposes & effecting the local environment & all beings using
& contacting its output, production & pollution on all levels hurting
or killing what? How durable is
the dystem? How long does a
chemical last sustain
in the environment? Minutes to months to centuries?
Business,
government, industry & military use predicted & planned techy ÒsustainableÓ systems to last as long as the plan for
it, with planned obsolete synthetic designs, enforced monopoly, replaced by
bigger, better & faster or smaller models for ever-more profit in their future
controlled from top down. They
assume sustaining
their income, profits, expanding progress & controlling technology hidden
by trade secrets, intellectual property & patents, fences, locks &
guards. Wasteful mass-production with terrible ecological damage, are & ignored & denied by:
Òdillusion (in air, food, waters,
bodies & ground) is the solution to pollutionÓ (hiding their shit) form us hurt by it. ÒWhat you canÕt see wonÕt hurt youÓ
unless we contact it, us suckers who buy techno goodies for fun living for
taste now & security in utopian science-fiction futures sustaining civilization dreams & lies.
In natural
cooperative evolving together we come from local needs & nature, markets
for healthy people & homes.
Designers from grass root community work to fill real organic needs with
local natural resources from our bioregion, These green systems are inspiring,
filling & nourishing our simple needs, like plants fed by soil, weather
& compost fermenting biomass making more soil.
Is sustainability healthy? Efficient? Fun? Democratic? Honest? & fair?, open or
secret business? Serving local life & nature?
honestly about causes & effects in our whole system? Is it divided into separate depts or
open process of connecting workers to leaders in community supporting it,
learning how & why it functions with what resources from where? Are the sources renewable, or limited
to how much or long? Can we renew the sources like waters flowing thru our
watershed? Grow more healthy trees
for feeding our watershed, protecting wildlife & growing bush foods, fish
populations, & balancing whole biosphere seasons cycles. 4-08
