Portland in 2030 city wide visioning     is a 3 year  citywide community based project by PDX Sustainability commission team.

From '05  the PDX mayor promoted a new team of 'PDX 2030' began hosting citizen meetings to envision how they want & need to live in coming decades. They claim 13,000 have shared in the PDX 2030 process,  i attended an open meeting in mid '07 at weekly Portland Peak Oil meeting in SE  St. Francis church.  PDX 2030 sent a brite woman leading our brainstorming & discussing potential  trends & solutions to problems & needs we shared.  That's happened 100s of times in 3 years & they publish yearly reports of many agreed-on comments & proposals for improv-ing & guiding their city programs open to peoples feedback & suggestions.

I have their 2030 - 16 pg color summery to mid '07 is rather inspiring considering how city systems constantly effect everyone there.  There 2030 zine has 5 elements of:  Built spaces,  economics,  learing & education,  natural environments,  & social life.  see www.visionPDX.com 503-823-9585

I wish we could/can do this in Eugene.  i was hopefully expecting the new Eugene Sustain-ability Commission to promote a similar city-wide brainstorming & feedback process.  Still could happen with any group committed to open & public ways of sharing our real feel-ings, needs & proposals for local reforms, maybe from neighborhood associations, active school, church, gardening & volunteer groups hosting their community brainstorming more ideal futures for our common goals.  Any fertile brainstorming process needs a skilled facilitator to guide our sharing on agreed on subjects toward reforms, proposals & solutions.

PS - similar published brainstorming has happened in Eugene in: '72 @ UO conference; '74 state wide 'Bend in the River' - media referendum;  "Buckman Community Congress" '81 & 3, & 'World Peace Game' on cable TV  '84, in Portland - archived
