GREAT ECOLOGY NOVELS

ISLAND AH   -          ECOTOPIA - EC            ALWAYS COMING HOME - ULG

ISLAND by Aldous Huxley, is his most positive utopian novel about a So. sea island Pala, that is similar to Bali now?  with its pagan/Hindu/Buddhist integrated art & ritual culture The hero lands on Pala & is taken in by the natives & trained how to live their way.  However Pala is also threatened by the rich neighbor island nation who want to develop its resources.

ECOTOPIA  Õ75, & Ecotopia Emerging Ō80 by Ernest CAllenbach,  Ecotopia also a futuristic No.Cal Eco-drama where women are mostly leading their communities by concensus, similar to The 5th.  Its a male journalist diary & reports about the eco-freaks new nation, unknown to Americans for 20 yrs. Ecotopia has seperated from USA in 1980, within Ore. Wash & No.Cal; thatÕs thrown out the U$ military, nuclear power, guns, taxes & cars. Most of the radical changes of its 1980, havenÕt even happened in real 1990s, except in small family ways, few newage businesses & spiritual practices like: Earth First, eco-forestry, Permaculture & wholistic healing movements now.  Ecotopia Emerging is a more down home story of a energy wizard girl who invents a solar devise to help Ecotopia gain local self reliance, without the massive utility industries there.  These are a rare pair of books about a novel future of ecoloving people.

ALWAYS COMING HOME - by Ursula LeGuin (Ō80s) is a post flood(sealevel rise)lands centuries in the future in No.Cali. In hi valley villages.  Where they grow many tribal cultures that invent  their local traditions of song, theaters & rituals. Like The 5th, it contains many new details of future life there of challenges, poems & celebrations.
