INSTINCTIVE EATING book by Zephyr Pangaia, ‘96

Rev. by micheal sunanda

This is a bold new book, delving into our deepest needs

about eating, compusivlely & intinctual. Zephyr is a dear

friend, so I’ll try to be fair to him & you now, with a balanced

view of his work. He’s been trying out raw foods for years,

on his quest for pure natural health & happiness. The book

in it’s 2nd edition is beautiful & clear in his experiences.

It is revised from his first - “How I Eat on Earth & How You

Can to”. He’s expanded & deepened it.

The “instinctive” ways we choose food are by body

senses of needs, smells, looks & feeling-touch of the food now.

Not by concepts, habits or old imprinting from childhood,

that’s how most of us select food for taste or ‘good food

groups’. If your trying ‘raw foods’ for health, pleasure or

deep healing, it challenges many old assumptions from our

parents, schools & mass(brainwashing)media, based on big

sceince & old wives tales of “good & best”. He’s similar to

other raw-foodists: Dick Gregory, AnnWigmore,Victorus

Kulvinskus, & the INstincto system from France. “Original

foods” are directly from organic nature, not processed,

stored or shipped much if at all. I’eat raw many days now,

by instincts & it works to feel light, clean out & be naturally

healthy.

He suggests the ‘clean me out program’, a modified

fast with herbs, clay & psyllium husk shakes daily for 4

weeks, if you need purifying from junk or excess cooked

foods. It also mentions other natural healing methods like

sweating, yoga, exercises, massage, enemas, etc. Lastly

he’s trying out conscious community living in Hawaii for a

few years, doing Permaculture at Pangaia(& elsewhere)

a raw-food tropical farm of cooperative living utopians,

who migrated from mainland to live very naturally. He also

includes dramatic testamonials from friends who’ve gone

Instincto for years now. It certainly is pioneering & radical to

stop cooking & shopping for food grown locally. I support his

deep vision, methods & the natural health movements it

strongly us to be encourages to be raw & enjoy it fully.
