Summary: English translation of Theodor Adorno's 1968 address, given to the German
sociological congress. Especially interesting because you can see Adorno starting to apply
the conceptual innovations of Negative Dialectics to sociological praxis and
the micropolitics of the New Left; unlike so many post-1968 thinkers, however,
he adamantly insists that Marxist categories and concepts are indispensable
tools in understanding the dynamic of late capitalism, as well as battling
its noxious ideologies. Note also the bravura conclusion: it's not simply
a question of banishing the bane of the total system from outside, but also of
dissolving its internalized structures from within.
