When I was a little girl, I used to day-dream that I could magically shrink our public library to the size of a small charm, so I could carry it with me wherever I went. When I wanted a book, all I'd have to do is grow the building just large enough for me to crawl inside and find what I needed. Then I'd bring the book to full-size, shrink the library back down again, and sit under a tree and read!
My desk-top computer is a little too big to carry around with me (and would be a bit awkward to use as a piece of jewelry!) but it does give me access to books, magazines, newspapers, journals and other information of all kinds from all over the world. Just wait a few a years and I'll have that jewelry-sized computer, too!

and everything in it, this wonderful site publishes a new installment in the current adventure every Friday.
- Cool Darkness is a work in progress. A sf novel, the action starts in 2030 AD.

by Voltaire (over 200 K), that I discovered in the Banned Books library.
- Two of my long-time favorites by Lewis Carroll
- If you've only seen the movie, you need to read the original The Wizard of Oz
by L. Frank Baum. If you like it, it's just the first of a series! (They're not all online yet, so you'll need to look for print editions in your local library.)
- The Light Princess was one of my favorite stories when I was a little girl. I was delighted to find it online.
Some of the books in the "Fiction" category are also in hypertext format, but usually only to the extent of breaking a larger work into chapters. True hypertext fiction is still very much in its infancy and very experimental. Here are some of my favorite experiments. - Under The Ashes--an atmospheric (horror? ghost? supernatural?) novel of a house and what happens to the three (if I remember correctly) people who go there. Very enjoyable.
- Delirium is a strangely compelling novel about Ariel Price, who decides with regret that he will have to murder his biographer.
- No Bird but an Invisible Thing by Christian Crumlish is 5 or 6 or 7 storylines woven together . Characters include Homer the blind poet, Achillies and Cyrus the red-headed comptuer programer. I've only read parts of this so far.
- desultory is a group of short pieces linked together. At first glance (which is all I've had time for) there seems to be little connection between the parts. In case you wondered, "desultory" means
- Moving or jumping from one thing to another; disconnected.
- Occurring haphazardly; random
- INTERFACE by Michael Eichler is a cyberpunkish, surrealistic work. It's wierd, but I liked it!
- Christmas 2000, Spot's Third First Christmas by James "Kibo" is ... Well, it's by Kibo, after all!
- What's a collection of hypertext without at least one example of Choose Your Own Adventure?

MosaicMOO -- an interesting interactive story space.
- The City of Bits Web site is a companion to the print book by William J. Mitchell, Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning at MIT. You'll read about "a new type of city, a largely invisible but increasingly important system of virtual spaces interconnected by the emerging information superhighway." This is a non-fiction vision of the kind of networked reality we've read about in the cyperpunk sf novels (and are experiencing to some extent right now.) Besides the text itself, which is highly provocative, you'll find links to numerous interesting places.
- The Cyberdock version of "Being Digital" by Nicholas Negroponte. I haven't read this one yet, but it looks interesting! (And I always enjoy his columns.)

- The Hypertext Hotel is a constructive, collaborative hypertext located at Brown University . It includes Hi-Pitched Voices - A women's collaborative hypertext fiction workshop started by Carolyn Guyer, author of Quibbling, and RhetNet, the beginnings of a net-published journal devoted to discussions of Rhetoric and Cyberspace.
