How the Rat Race Supports
Racism, Ageism, Sexism, Classism
If, as individuals, we see our jobs as being necessary for our
survival, we are threatened by anyone who tries to compete for these
jobs. We therefore try to reduce competition from any people in
groups different from our own. We try to make them appear as
second-class citizens, not qualified for our jobs.
These "isms" also serve employers by separating the interests of the
most powerful faction of the working class, young adult, white males,
from those of minorities and women, so they can avoid paying maximum
wages to all.
