The Land of Wandering
The Queen's perspective

In looking at who I was in the past, it's sometimes hard to reconcile that memory with who I am today - and yet, without the things I once did and the ways I once was, I would not be the person I am today. In moments of pain and moments of joy alike, I have no complaints about who that person is. That's not a start. That's home.

books
There is a great joy to be found in the pages of a book. Words are paths to other worlds and dimensions; worlds sometimes more grim than our own, sometimes infinitely more beautiful in their range and colour. I love to sprawl across my worn but comfy tan couch and read a good book. (No law books, though - the couch is sacred!)
Some favourites:

The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas
The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
His Dark Materials trilogy, Phillip Pullman
All things Harry Potter, J. K. Rowlings
All We Know of Heaven, Anne Tuttle Villegas
Snow Falling on Cedars, David Guterson
Talk Before Sleep, Elizabeth Berg

music
Depending on the mood of the moment, I might like to listen to music while delving into other realms. A little Sarah McLachlan or Gary Jules calm me as I read, write and study. And if I'm not up to reading? Suppose I want to dance around, forget the bleaker moments of the day? I'll pop in Common Rotation, Remy Zero or Pink. For a depth of soul that causes my heart to ache, I play "Full of Grace" by Sarah McLachlan. If I want no more than to lose myself in movement, I will play
Enya. "To Go Beyond" is the most beautiful song I have ever heard; as I dance to this song, I can almost feel the earth give way under my feet.

For a super-fine live show, there's nothing so lively and just plain fun as Common Rotation, featuring the most incredibly compelling lyricist and performer I've yet to see live or hear otherwise, Eric Kufs. Warning: So fun to groove to, you won't be able to stop!

film & partway there
While Ian McKellen rises above all the rest, among my favourite actors are Robert Duvall, Will Ferrell (comic genius!) and Al Pacino. Look here for old movie reviews.

Favorite movies:
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings - FAR above the rest
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings (did I mention that?)
Shrek, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Contact, Once Were Warriors, Ghost, Wayne's World

Favorite shows:
Till a few months ago, I'd only watched the two most surprisingly brilliant shows ever: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (which I've since ceased watching), with an occasional MadTV and less frequent Saturday Night Live. Then I did go through a little stint of Queer as Folk madness - all because my roommate and I wanted to see if Brian was capable of being a good guy. Ha! (Yes, I have seen a few episodes of Sex in the City, and the reason it's not on this list is that cleaning gym showers with my tongue strikes me as more enjoyable than watching a single episode of that ever again. Just say NO!)

beautiful people

There are millions of beautiful people wandering the streets, cooking dinner or playing basketball with buddies right now. These people may show no outward signs of beauty, may look as attractive at first glance as a seemingly flat desert landscape; don't be deceived.

my life as of December 16, 2002...
Wills & Trusts is over forever! My third semester of law school is almost over with it, but one more paper stands between me and halfway-through yet. I'm taking a day off to relax and enjoy an unusally rainy day in Los Angeles before returning to that last task at hand. Last week, I studied harder than I have in my entire life; I was so delirious by Thursday that I didn't even understand the words that people spoke when they were addressing me. Now that's all over, and in four days my little sister is back for our second annual Christmas in the Los Angeles sunshine! She's a few days too late to catch opening day of The Two Towers with me like we did with Fellowship of the Rings last year, the day she arrived, but we'll certainly take it in together sometime during her stay. A day trip to Mexico might even be in order! With such a superkeen little sister as Mads, anything is possible. Life goes on as usual, if "usual" is even the word to use for a life so vastly different from the one I ever imagined for myself in bygone days of despair.
