LIST OF MONUMENTS



Attached to this page, below, are the lists of the works of art covered 
in this class.  Please note that this is not necessarily the order in which
they will be or were discussed in the lecture. Very likely a few will be
dropped and a few may be added, especially if the class shows a particular 
enthusiasm for a particular subject (Palladian villas, anyone?). I will let 
you know in class and the Web site will be updated. At any rate, the art 
listed here is also illustrated in your textbook, Gardner's Art Through
the Ages, 12th edition, 2006. Numbers refer to the illustrations in
Gardner. 
					
For quizzes and exams you will need to know, and this List will show you:


					
						
• The artist,





• The title/subject,


						
• The location
You will need to know the The location--the place--of those works of art
that are immovable, such as buildings (St. Peter's Basilica, Rome),
frescoes (Masaccio's Holy Trinity in the church of Santa Maria 
Novella, Florence) or are just too big to pick up and carry away (the
the Arc de Triomphe, Paris)


						
• The date
You will need to give a date when you write about art.  For this
course, you will use what are called "Bracket
Dates": conventional divisions, listed below, as your date. 
The actual date is supplied in class and on the slide lists, basically for
your background information.

							We will be using the		
 Slide comparison format for the quizzes. You will be
shown two slides side by side and asked to identify them and then write a paragraph discussing the reason for
