Lectures and other Events in Class
Note Bene: On the Use of Web sites: Basically, I do not
want you to use Web sites in your written work. There are hundreds of
books and articles on Michelangelo, and all of you are at the beginning of
finding and using this work. If you have found something that is a recent
publication that you think is of some worth, such as on Rab Hatfield's
book The Wealth of Michelangelo or the cleaning of the David,
please consult me. Web sites are not a substitution for standard research
procedures.
- March 5: Students will present an article they have found on
Michelangelo, dating within the last five years (with some elasticity if
you've found something really good). This article may relate to your major
paper or just be something intriguing. Be able to discuss this
thoroughly--this should take five to ten minutes each. I will accept a Web
site, as long as it's not a "look how dumb this is" presentation.
Also, I will discuss the Pieta in Michelangelo's work and his Madonna
reliefs.
- March 12: Present/Hand in paragraph description of the major
paper, and an annotated bibliography. I will bring in an example of
an annotated bibliography, but basically you need to produce a list of
books and articles relevant to your paper (don't tell me about the useless
stuff you've found) which you have read or looked over thoroughly and will
most likely use in your paper. Your evaluation of each title will be
written out as a good-size descriptive paragraph.
On this, please remember that part of my evaluation of your paper will
derive from how well you show a high level of skill in organizing and
presenting/writing your paper.
Also: Bring in a recent article on the David. We'll talk about
the David with lots of slides.
- March 19 Board plane, fly to Florence and/or Rome for in-depth
study of Michelangelo and Italy. We will do this after winning the
Powerball. In other words, it's Spring Vacation.
- March 26
