"Andrew Merriell & Associates, a small exhibition planning and design firm in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is looking for a paid summer intern. Duties will include contributing to several projects at various stages in the design process, from interpretive master plan to design development; creating proposals; research tasks; writing and graphic design; project management; and various office duties.

"Because it's a small and busy firm, you'll have the chance to observe and participate in everything that we do, from day-to-day office operations to business development to kick-off meetings to all the design phases. The major projects we'll be working on this summer include a new research-focused science museum, a children's museum, and two projects related to Native American history and culture.

"The ideal candidate for this internship is a master's degree candidate, a quick thinker, good at multitasking, creative in solving problems, and friendly. We require proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop and prefer a candidate comfortable with 3D modeling. Dates and hours are flexible. BASEBALL HALL OF FAME SUMMER 2007 INTERNSHIPS

"In its seventh year, the Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program is a ten week experience that offers college and graduate students an opportunity to work alongside Museum and Library staff to gain hands-on professional training in a field that closely matches his/her major. Interns craft leadership and communication skills by attending career seminars hosted by Hall of Fame staff and community leaders and also by participating in thematic public speaking, research and writing assignments that directly relate to the fulfilling the mission of the organization. COOPER-HEWITT MUSEUM

FRICK COLLECTION ANDREW W. MELLON PREDOCTORAL CURATORIAL FELLOWSHIP 2008-2010

"The Frick Collection is pleased to announce the availability of a two-year predoctoral fellowship funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for an outstanding doctoral candidate who wishes to pursue a curatorial career in an art museum. The fellowship will offer invaluable curatorial training and will provide the scholarly and financial resources required for completing the doctoral dissertation. It is best suited to a student working on a dissertation that pertains to one of the major strengths of the Collection and Library. The Fellow will be expected to divide his or her time between the completion of the dissertation and activities in the curatorial department. Applicants must be within the final two years of completing their dissertations. The Mellon Fellow will receive a stipend of $33,000 per year plus benefits and a travel allowance. Offers ten $25,000 Conservation Fellowships for advanced internships in fine arts conservation. These Fellowships are restricted to individuals who have completed an M.A. degree in art conservation and are for a one-year internship. Application must be made by the museum or conservation research facility at which the internship will be based. Fremont, Ohio. "The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center seeks two summer collections cataloging interns for an IMLS Museums for America funded project. Interns will identify, describe, mark, measure, and photograph the Center's artifacts in the home and museum and input data into PastPerfect. They will work as a team with two project catalogers. Interns should be currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a graduate- level program in museum studies. The museum is seeking students who are interested in pursuing a career with an historical organization and have an interest in collections management. ROCK AND ROLLL HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM INTERNSHIP

"the world's first museum dedicated to the living heritage of rock and roll music, has exciting internship opportunities in our Collections and Exhibitions departments for spring and summer 2007. The Exhibitions internship offers students the opportunity to work with the Museum's historical artifacts and see the inner workings of this one of a kind organization. Duties include but are not limited to working with the Chief Preparator on installation and fabrication of exhibits, assisting in preparing textile artifacts for display, assisting with mount making for artifacts including metal work, carpentry and picture framing, and performing routine maintenance on selected exhibits. PENNSYLVANIA HISTORICAL & MUSEUM COMMISSION SUMMER 2007 INTERNSHIPS FOR STUDENTS OF COLOR

"The Minority Student Internship Program is designed to introduce upper level undergraduate and graduate students of color to careers in museums and related fields. It represents a commitment by PHMC, as well as collaborating institutions, to increase the participation of minorities in the museum field; and recognizes that pre-professional experience in museums and cultural institutions is key to achieving this goal. Interns work closely with a staff mentor, who both guides the student on specific projects and orients him or her to the broader context of the work. SAYRE HISTORICAL SOCIETY SUMMER INTERNSHIP 2008

"Riverhill, an exhibition and interpretive development firm, seeks a summer intern for a project at the Sayre Historical Society, Sayre, PA. The exhibition will focus on the history of the Lehigh Valley Railroad in Sayre and feature the museumÕs extensive collection of LVRR artifacts and archival materials. The intern will conduct and transcribe oral history interviews with former railroad workers, conduct research in archival collections, scan historical images and participate in exhibit team meetings. The successful applicant will have an interest in museum exhibitions and local or railroad history. He/she will have an demonstrated ability to work independently and experience in historical research. Flexible start and end dates; 35 hours/week for 10 weeks, $12/hour. SOUTH DAKOTA ART MUSEUM INTERNSHIPS

The South Dakota Art Museum offers many volunteer internships for individuals considering or pursuing careers in museum work. All candidates with skills, interests or experiences relevant to museum work are eligible. Internships at the South Dakota Art Museum range in length from one to three months. It is expected that interns will commit to a set number of contact hours per week. Intern positions are typically project-oriented with interns working alongside curatorial staff. Students often arrange academic credit for their experience through their college or university.

The availability of internships is determined by the needs of curatorial staff, considering exhibition schedules and the varying potential for challenging intern projects. STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM & HALL OF FAME SUMMER 2008

"The intern will inventory and catalog the collection of the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame. This project will include the photographing of all objects, creating condition reports, and establishing a records management system for both physical and digital records. Conduct research and develop didactic material for current and future exhibits. Write articles for newsletters and other publications. Produce key aspects of a self-guided tour pamphlet. Other duties as assigned. The intern will report to and work closely with the executive director. "The McFaddin-Ward House accepts applications for a Summer Intern January 1st for the summer of the same year. The successful candidate will enjoy working with a unique collection in Southeast Texas at an AAM-accredited museum. The McFaddin-Ward House is a gem. Mamie McFaddin Ward lived most of her life here in this Beaux-Arts Colonial mansion and made arrangements to establish her family home as a historic house museum. The museum encompasses three city blocks and includes a state of the art Visitor Center, the McFaddin-Ward House, an office building and a Collections and Education building...Position Summary: The intern will be exposed to projects and duties in all areas of a historic house museum. The focus of the internship will be a specific project chosen by the intern in either interpretation or collections management. Work is performed under general supervision of the museum curator. "Villa Finale, a National Trust Historic Site currently in development in San Antonio, Texas, is seeking an intern to assist in the processing of its extensive collection. The diverse collection includes furniture, ceramics, silver, paintings and prints, and textiles, as well as materials related to Napoleon and the history of Texas. The intern's duties will include collections care and cleaning, object numbering, condition reporting, and data entry. The intern may also assist in other projects related to the development of Villa Finale and preparation for its opening to the public. PARK CITY HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND MUSEUM

"The intern will work with the curator of collections and exhibitions to prepare for an upcoming collections move and to prepare artifacts for exhibition. Duties will include cataloging, inventorying, basic conservation, and mount-making. The Park City Museum has more than 27,000 objects and is in the middle of an $8.9 million expansion project. Applicants should be enrolled in a graduate program, or have recently completed a graduate program in museum studies, history, or a related field. Applicants should be familiar with and have skills in object handling, mount making for storage, and collection databases. Experience with archives management or digitization is a plus. Applicants must be able to climb ladders independently and to lift 50 lbs occasionally and 25 lbs frequently and independently. The internship will last from 8 to 10 weeks. BENNINGTON MUSEUM: Collections Assistant

Annual? "Reporting to and working closely with the Collections Manager, the collections assistant will work on the ongoing automation project and subsequent inventory of the Bennington Museum collection. Numbering over 60,000 items, the museum collection includes such diverse items as fine art, decorative art, archives, photographs, ephemera, historical objects and much more. This year, the intern will be concentrating on our collection of pottery (Bennington and otherwise) and Vermont tools. Many of these objects are simply not recorded and will require complete cataloging.

"The collections assistant will also be working with a staff of dedicated volunteers and undergraduate interns. The collections assistant should have a working knowledge of modern cataloging practices, care and handling and preventative conservation. Computer proficiency is a must for this position. SHELBURNE MUSEUM SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

Shelburne Museum offers a variety of internship opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and recently graduated students. Internships are available in most areas of the Museum including education, collections, conservation, curatorial, and public relations. VERMONT HISTORICAL SOCIETY SUMMER INTERNSHIPS 2008

"The Vermont Historical Society as part of an IMLS funded Connecting to Collections grant will hire two interns from mid-May to mid-August 2008. The interns will participate in a project to survey and assess the needs of Vermont's collecting institutions (museums, historical societies, libraries, town & city clerks, and probate courts). The interns will work with a Collections Advisory Committee and report directly to the Project Director. Interns will manage e-mail lists and survey databases, plan and attend regional meetings, communicate and visit collecting institutions, and prepare oral and written reports for Advisory Committee. College graduate with BS / BA in museum/library/archives/conservation program or currently in a graduate program in one of these areas. At least one year of experience in a museum, library, or archives working with collections. A basic understanding of collections care, collections management and current conservation standards and practices for museums, libraries, or archives will be needed. Annual? "a full-time, twelve-week, paid internship. Working with curators, educators and editors on all summer programs. The intern's tasks may range from research, and writing, to implementing daily public programs and educational tours. Interns will assist with development and implementation of teacher workshops, and underwater archeology summer camp. Will require excellent people and presentation skills, and the ability to multi-task. Knowledge of American and Military history preferred. "The Library of Congress, home of the U.S. Copyright Office, is offering special 10-week summer internships to college students who will work full-time, starting on June 5 and ending on Aug. 11, to help locate and itemize uncataloged materials submitted to the office as part of the copyright registration process. THE NAVY MUSEUM

2000/2001: The Navy Museum in Washington, DC has curatorial, education, and design internships available throughout the year. The Naval Historical Center offers internships to students who wish to have professional work experience in areas related to their educational programs and career goals. In addition to undertaking historical research, writing and editing, the Naval Historical Center operates the Navy Department Library and The Navy Museum an maintains collections of naval archives, photographs, artifacts, and art. Internships are available in all of these areas. If the center's funds permit, small honoraria may be paid to interns. If available and appropriate, these honoraria will average about $20.00 per day and will be limited to a total of $400 for each intern. "The Milwaukee Public Museum, one of the largest in the United States, is a museum of natural history. This internship, sponsored by the Betty L. and M. Kenneth Starr Internship Fund, runs from June to August and offers a stipend of $2000 for assistance in travel and living expenses. Candidates must be enrolled in a graduate degree-granting program in Museum Studies. (Students enrolled in an advanced program with an emphasis or certificate in Museum Studies or Museum Science do not qualify for this award.)
