AMERICAN ACADEMY IN ROME CLASSICAL SUMMER SCHOOL

Annual. "This six-week program is designed to provide qualified graduate students, mature undergraduates, and middle school, high school, and two-year college teachers with a well-founded understanding of the growth and development of the city of Rome through a careful study of material remains and literary sources." AMERICAN ACADEMY IN ROME SUMMER PROGRAM IN ARCHAEOLOGY

Annual, usually June-July. "This seven-week program provides an overview of archaeological problems and methods for graduate students in all fields of classical studies. Three weeks of the program are spent in Rome studying monuments and other resources; the balance of the time is spent on-site at an archaeological excavation." For more details, see the Web site.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL CONSERVATION PROGRAM AT THE SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM SUMMER 2007

"The Smithsonian's Museum Conservation Institute is offering a short-term internship in archaeological conservation. It will be four to five weeks in duration, between early July and mid-August, based entirely in Panama City, Panama, as part of a collaborative conservation and technical study of pre-Columbian Panamanian gold and gilded artifacts. International travel expenses and on-site living costs will be covered. Applicants should currently be enrolled in or recently graduated from recognized conservation training programs. Preference will be given to an applicant who has training in objects conservation with special emphasis on archaeological materials (especially metals). Candidates must be fluent in English, both spoken and written.

"Applications (in English) must include the following:

  1. cover letter explaining the candidate's interests and intent in applying for the project
  2. curriculum vitae, with basic biographical information and current and permanent addresses and telephone numbers
  3. names and contact information for 2 references

"The application must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2007. Selected candidates will be interviewed by telephone, although MCI visits are welcome. Notifications will be sent by April 15, 2007. CENTER FOR AMERICAN ARCHAEOLOGY

MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, BOSTON: NIARCHOS CLASSICAL ART CURATORIAL INTERNSHIP 2007

Annual? "The Department of Art of the Ancient World at the MFA, Boston is pleased to announce the inauguration of a Niarchos Classical Art Curatorial Internship. The internship will be project-based and offer hands-on experiences in a range of activities, which may include object handling, documentation, installations, conservation treatments, recording and archival work, and presentations to the public. Projects will be determined on the basis of the applicant?s expertise and the needs of the Department.

Applications are now being accepted for the internship, which will begin in Autumn 2007 and last for two months. The intern will work full-time (35 hours/week) at the museum for the period of the internship. A stipend of up to $4000 (paid at an hourly rate) will be available. Candidates should be advanced graduate students or recent PhDs in Classical or early Byzantine art and archaeology who are interested in careers in art museums.     Offered every summer. "The Tel Dor expedition will resume excavation at Dor in June 2006, and is now actively recruiting volunteers for a six-week season between June 27 and August 5.
