LIST OF MONUMENTS

This list was made up before the classes have taken place, and so may have to be adjusted as the course moves along and reality sets in. Listings move chapter by chapter so no figure numbers will be cited unless the figure is from another part of the book.

This is a list of the art you are expected to know for the quizzes and the exams. Note that the works may not be shown in exactly this order, and that substitutions may be required. You will also be shown other works of art for context and for contrast, for which you will not be responsible, but which you should be able to factor into your broader understanding of the material.

Vocabulary: Art history has a language all its own, and it is important that students learn this language properly. Words written in italics are many, but not all, of the terms you will need to use in context. Note also that the works of art listed here are phrased as you are expected to identify them for the quizzes and exams.

Dates The dates that you will need to know for the quizzes and exams are the names of the periods you see below. You don't need to memorize, for example, that the Theater at Epidauros dates to ca. 350 B.C.; just put down "Classical." If you do put down the date in years, and it is wrong, your answer will be counted as wrong.
