As stated in the course syllabus, there will be five quiz opportunities during the term; you must complete four. You can complete all five and I will drop the lowest score. Two of the quizzes will be done in class, and will be described below in more detail. The others will be short projects you are to complete outside of class and turn in on the due date.
- The first quiz, Monday, April 16, involved writing an essay on the movie Pollock. See the Newsletters on this.
- Required Artist Lecture paper This can be completed at any time during the term; however, you must hand this in no later than two weeks after the lecture. Again, see the Newsletters on this.
Wednesday, April 25, we will have short, in-class quiz. As stated in class, this will comprise four slides, each with questions to answer. You must also identify each slide with the name of the artist (if known), the title of the work, and the date by epoch, taken from the chapter titles. Please be on time for the quiz. If you are late, you will miss that portion of the quiz. If you miss the quiz entirely, you will not be allowed to make it up unless you can present proof of illness or required participation in a Lane activity.
- For Monday, May 30 : you are to bring in a one-page (if typed, longer if handwritten) essay proposing a lecture on a particular subject. This can be a request for an elaboration of a previous lecture (or part of one) or it can be a request for a discussion of something we haven't covered. Please be thoughtful and serious. Joky essays will not be given credit.
- Monday, June 4, we will have another short, in-class quiz.
