On Monday we will have a lecture and slideshow by Kathleen Caprario, instructor in design here at Lane. She will show some of her students' work as well as her own.
We will then continue with the art historical overview. You should be reading the first chapter on this.
On Wednesday we will have short, in-class QUIZ. As stated in class, this will comprise four slides, each with questions to answer. You must also identify each slide with the name of the artist (if known), the title of the work, and the date by epoch, taken from the chapter titles. Please be on time for the quiz. If you are late, you will miss that portion of the quiz. If you miss the quiz entirely, you will not be allowed to make it up unless you can present proof of illness or required participation in a Lane activity.
After the Quiz we will continue the art historical lecture.

- Wednesday, April 25 at 7:30 pm in 100 Willamette Hall : Mary Margaret Jones, "principal in charge of the San Francisco office of HARGREAVES ASSOCIATES will speak about "MEANING, MAKING AND MEDIUM" The firm is noted for major works of landscape architecture in which art and landscape process are integrated. Renowned projects by Hargreaves Associates and led by Mary Margaret Jones include: Sydney Olympics Master Concept Design, U.of Cincinnati Master Plan, Byxbee Park, Guadalupe Gardens, a flood control garden in San Jose, and Crissy Field in San Francisco."
9- Saturday, April 28 at 2 pm at White Lotus Gallery, 767 Willamette Street. Painter Jon Jay Cruson will be talking about his new work.
A bit of background information : "Jon is a graduate of the UofO with an MA in painting, drawing and printmaking. His work has been collected both nationally and internationally, including works in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. His works are "an appealing blend of precise expression alive with rich colors and evocative realism". The works here at the gallery reflect his love of the landscape. His acrylic pieces are bold and direct, yet are comfortable to the eye. "With the use of flat color juxtaposed to pattern and textures, he created a superlative dynamic." -- From the Press Release.

Art on TV
This Friday, 9:30 pm on PBS : Edward S. Curtis and the North American Indians Part of PBS' American Masters series. From 1900, the end of the history of the "Wild West", into the modern world of the 1920s Curtis traveled throughout North America photographing and documenting the lives of Native Americans. He is responsible for most of what we think we know about what these people looked like and how they lived their lives.

Here is another opportunity for an artist lecture:
- "Presenting Noah Richardson Terminal BFA Project : IS IT ART?"--This is from a flyer found in the EMU at OU; I have no idea who this person is, but it might be an event. This happens May 28, at 7:00 p.m. at Wilkinson House This is apparently located on Agate Street near the corner of Franklin Blvd. Note: "Plus Special One Nigh Only Venue: "Hero" a film by Noah Richardson." Go with a friend.
- A Last Artist Show: Try the "Opening Reception for the Furniture Design Show from 7 to 9 pm. at the LaVerne Krause Gallery, UO (Lawrence Hall)." This is Monday, June 11. Doesn't say anything about a lecture so you will all have to gang up on the artists and grill them yourselves.
