THE LAST ROLL OF TOILET PAPER ON........? Homing instinct & a delicate balance in the bush of spiral naturenergy by micheal sunanda One hot summer day driving to the mountain hotspring to melt into the waters, Kava, Zeek & i decide to a take a quick dip the river first. Pulling of the road into the woods, we can here the rushing rapids beyond the trees. Sweating from the hiway, we hop out & eagerly;; walk barefoot on the poky forest floor toward the riversong. We get undressed before seeing a young family camping out on the shore. They're surprised to hear me, barely seeing us when i yell, "Hello, (they look over to see us peaking out), can we swim naked here in the river?" i ask anxiously curious, will they allow us hippy strangers there? The father yells back, "Yea, its OK, go ahead" after a nod from his wife. So we scampered to the water happily splashing & dipping in the shallow-shore. Quickly cooled off, were ready for the drive to hotsprings for ultimate relaxing bliss, laffing over the nude encounter at the 'clothing optional' riverside. The path into the hot pools winds thru the huge 2nd growth forest, pulling us deeper into its spell of eco-peace. The gentle walk ends at 7 pools, from very hot to warm, down the hill toward the creek. We choose a lower empty warm pool to play, splash, talk, massage, tickle & bliss in, ;your basic cosmic water party, as the hot ones are crowded with city folks. There's a small cold stream for drinking & cooling off, flowing parallel to the ponds, diluting the hot water, down to the creek. We undress again to get wet & lay in the soothing warm merky pool, free hydrotherapy at its organic best. It reminds me of Victor Schaubergers natural theory of water implosion spirals. How does that effect our bodies now in hot mineral springs. I can see the water spiraling in current & falls, even steam & clouds. He explains in some detail how the water temperature gradient of 39oF & 98oF are most important temperatures for organic life. I once saw a fish floating amid a flowing stream, without moving, it was very curious. Schauberger explains how it works in surface & ground waters that spiral in the flow, with a still center. We're such beginners in natural living, tribal being organic instincts in action. Were the Indians really primal, or stuck in ruts of ritual division of labor, hierarchy & fear? .I've been studying many Indian & tribal peoples to learn how they live, so i can live more simple, free & healthy. Camping out for years to erase my fears of the wilderness. Every experience of contact within nature teaches me some more. So i tried & practiced dozens of simple camping says, until my instincts respond to present changes, not old myths. Now the patterns emerge to recognize, if I'm open. Relaxing brings on reflections, & now i need to poop. after an easy pee in the water. So get out to find an outhouse/shitter, which is out-of-sight. So i walk into the woods with my water bottle, to find a tree to poop under away from the creek. With a good stick to dig a hole i squat over & cover up with soil, then wash off, no more Tpaper. It reminds me of dogs sniffing around for the best tree to pee on, & maybe learn about other does being there before? I love it here, so pristine & dense with growing rain-forest energy. It's such a crime we chop down whole forests for toilet, newspaper, packaging & magazines; building wood & burning chips for electric power, killing the primal virgin bioregion. It's amazing how green & deep, cool & wet, fertile & full it is here, in the few remaining rainforests & jungles, each unique watersheds with unnamed evolving species. Earth must be infinite in her ability to grow, adapt, change, mutate & compost the waste. The bacteria are also infinite, in complexity in soils & cells cooperating together building fertility in different fractal chaos patterns in organic space. I shout "YAAAAA, HOOOOOO", celebrating freeflowing awareness in the bush of Gaia. "Yaaaa Ho" echos back to me, calling me back to the ponds. As the eternal recycling continues without our help, we recycle 5-10% of our waste?! while nature does 100% of we let her alone to feed herself, like trees building soil fertilizing growth thru the seasons. I hear laffing & singing approaching the hot pools, carefully barefooting thru the woods toward the folky music into the bliss eartheated healing waters. "Where we gonna camp out tonite? asks kava as Zeek beams at us, "Yea, where?" 'I'm not sure, so lets go look for a neat space in the trees, away from the road & party animals, to set up before dark. So we slowly emerging from the waters, all flushed in hot. I shuffle up to the cold water spout to splash, cool off & wake up. Then we get dressed in slow motion.. .We gently hike around the hilly snaking trails to find a flat spot to camp out. It feels like floating thru the woods, looking with a unfocused sense of need for a instant nest under big trees. "What kinda place do we want to camp at? i ask us. "I want a soft flat space near the babbling brook", says Kava, as we scan the shaded forest floor. Then Zeek says, "Look over there, it kinda flat in those trees". pointing. So we walk there & immediately like it now. "Yes, yes" we say at once, happy our search is done, so we can set up camp. "A fire, a fire" exclaims Zeek. "Where's a fire?" i ask, looking around. "I wanna fire here" he retorts. "Well maybe, I'm going for a quick walk" says kava. "I get firewood" Zeek preparing for it. I roll out our double homemade sleeping bag, to lay on now, about 40 ft from the creek, so soothing to my bodymind here harmonizing with the crickets & frogs songs. Suddenly a owl come flying & hooting over our heads, "WOW, an owl!" & we hoot back"Hooooo" at it. I wonder out-loud, "Did it came to meet us or what, a spirit guide messenger? Did Kava see it too?" Then I walk with Zeek to the edge of our camp to pee on the soil. I explain to him its like a cat or bear or fox to mark its territory there. Any animal could likely smell it. But will they stay outa here? It's like a circle of protection, with a chant, prayer, song or ritual to declare our presence for a clear space. j Then Kava returns as we're peeing on our perimeter. with the full-moon light shinning thru the trees, a little hitting the ground, when clouds clear away. "i wonder how the full moon light effects the animals, as we here some howling far-away. They seem more active at night, maybe having sex, fighting, traveling, hunting.?..." Maybe the moon light effects the tree seeds sprouting? like moon cycles effect planting responses to waxing & waning moon spells. We all eat a cool fruit snack, as its too warm for a fire. Then Zeek sees 3 glowing dots on the ground near us. "Lookee, it's glowing,,,,,,, what are they? "I don't know, i've seen'em before, but........." So i shine a flashlight on it, which disappears, & reappears in the dark. Oh well, another mystery of nature. "Maybe it's a baby gloworm or fire-fly? who knows?" Kava & Zeek start cuddling on the bag, so i lay close too, in the slowly shifting moonlite, as we whisper ourselves into dreamlands. Suddenly Kava blurts out< "What's that noise?" she sits up looking around & sees a dear walking by 20 ft away. It looks at her while walking in alert slow-motion glancing back a couple times. Lots of animals out here in the twilight zone, where everything looks gray, fuzzy & mystic.. We do some soft yoga streches breathing to totally relax & finally Zeek is asleep. We all surrounded by the glorious forest that billions of earthlings have loved forever, till cities took over. So kava & i hug, kiss & slowly massage to sleep, as i drift into dreaming, the ecopeace is so deep, while i'm floating in the fractal nest of gravity now. I suddenly feel a spinning inside & liteness of.... I woke up in the dark with a startle, a feeling of earth tremors shacking gently wiggling the ground under me. Then Kava awakens from her dream & starts talking to whoever is.....listening, telling a story. She was staying with Zeek in a geodesic dome in northern California at the end of the herb harvest season. Then her lover asked if she'd like to go to Hawaii for a few weeks with Zeek & him? She said yes(in her dream) & next flew over the ocean to the island & hitchiked to a nude blacksand beach to camp out on The beach was warm, the water cool, sunbathers, surfers & dolphins at sea there, miles from town. They camped in a tent, but soon Kava argued with her lover who left here there, breaking the agreement they had to return together. She felt very disappointed, mad, rejected & scared of making her way alone, without a man to support her. Then she found an new friend, who took her home & the dream faded. WOW, what a dream" i said, in the moody thick silence' "What do you feel inside now?" "Sort of lonely, confused & hot, wondering what to do? It felt so real there, i wonder........ I never wanted to go there before now, but I'm really curious about it!" "Me too, Kava; what's Hawaii? Zeek inquires. "Some islands in the middle of the ocean where people live & go on trips there in airplanes." Lava answers. I need some water now! so i hand her our water bottle to drink. I wonder how'd be camping out there? sunny, wet & hot in the jungle & fruit plantations, & the volcano erupting lava flowing into the sea! That reminds me, that i felt a earth tremor last nite here. The ground was gently shacking under me, almost woke up, but...... "How can you feel it in your sleep? maybe it was dream or you had the shakes?" Kava inquired, doubtful & joking. "No Kava, it was real, i can feel a bug on by skin asleep & hear sounds in the night, you have too Kava!.I don't have earthshacking dreams like you do. i teased back. I've felt tremors many times in my sleep, but usually forget it when awake. I wonder what causes them????" I've heard its from volcanos erupting somewhere underground, like a fart bomb, that shits hot lava out making rocks" Kava jokes. "i heard that underground atomic bomb blasts can cause earthquakes far-away, thru the geological gridworks they've traced, maybe effecting earth electromagnetic field from inside, that effected by the alinements of many plants in one sign of the Zodiac, like 7 planets conjuncting in the sign Capricorn, just before the gaint LA earthquake in Feb of '94. "Who cares of the world's being ruined by nuclear power, it's too secret & expensive to know, change or stop it" Kava cynicaly rags. "I also heard that earths; electromagnetic field in dropping fast in last few decades, as the ozone layer is getting big holes in it & earth orbit wobbles is increasing as the magnetic north pole is shifting faster than ever now. All combined, it's kinda scary. I've heard there's 1000s of earth tremors/day around the globe., especially around volcanos, like on Hawaii" i emphasize. "Let's go for a swim in the lake, this is boring discourse from my Hawaii dream & your midnite shudders dear" "Yea, yea" Zeek & i both rave, Let's go now!" So we get up & walk down the trail to the lake below he hot springs. The sun is just peaking over the forested hill down to the waterline. Its exciting sensing the fresh air, warm sun, wet lake & hard earth, floating & skipping down to the edge, we undress & get in, Zeek jumps in & shreeks, Kava dives & swims & i walk in splashing, shocking myself & yelping loud before diving in. Then i see a handmade lograft next to the shore, looks so inviting, i swim over to grab on & drag it out to sea. They see it & come over to get on to lay & play on, & jump off of. It's a blast to stand & balance & fall in whammo! Then i get entranced while floating face down, seeing the sunlight beaming down toward the bottom. On my hands it looks like fuzzy rainbow gloves, maybe my aura or...?....?.... Next i hear .a splashing underwater & look up to see a big dog bounding to us. Now it's chasing a stick thrown in by a guy on horse-back, whose looking at us all & beyond. I look across the lake to see large clear cut section of the hillside above the lake, where an avalanche has eroded the hillside into the water. I wonder if its effected or killed any fish, reptiles, birds or mammals? The next rainstorm will probably do more damage! We return to the shore to meet the man, except Zeek on the raft. Emerging from water his dog sprays us the a fast wiggle shacking off its water, hello humans! "Hi I'm Toby, we're camping out nearby. Have you heard of the big clear-cut on Beaver creek timber sale going on now about a mile away?" he asks. "No, why should we?" asks Kava, Is it like the one over there, with all the trees gone?" "Yes & no, the timber company is cutting them down fast, about 500 to now & lots of big old growth, if we don't stop them soon!" he shares their goal in worried tone. "Whose the big WE you mean? Kava asks. "I'm with Earth First forest defenders of wilderness, we're camping between here & the timber sale slaughter of ancient trees. Would you like to come visit our camp to find out more about it? we like company & need help, but you don't have to do anything, it's close by" he encourages us openly. Kava & i look at each other with wonder, what if..........? "We'll have to discuss it now Toby" i explain, "Great, I'm goin for a swim" he says, then gets down, ties up his house & dives into the lake. "Well, should we go to visit them young tree defenders we might learn something? or even have fun with them, i won't join them & leave you in Hawaii!" "What if the cops come" worries Kava. "I'm not going to protest logging, are you?" "Of course nursing Zeek up a tree. Zeek, we're goin to Toby's camp near by, wanna come along?" Kava asks. "Sure" he chimes with innosent interest, where is it?". "anyway if it's uptight we just leave, OK? She nods. Toby gets out of the water, walks over to us. He asks "What'd you decide to do?" "We'd like to meet at your camp, where is it?" "in the next ravine, we're set up about 1/4 mile up the creek Pointer come here"' the dog is jumping on Zeek to lick his face, & stops to return. All good signs of his integrity. I Wonder if they're all young hippy idealistic treesitters or what? "I'll meet you on the road, at our trailhead in 10 min? go right from here up hill, OK?" Toby directs with steady eye contact, he turns the horse onto the trail out. "Sure, sound like fun" So we walk out to our car & go. "There he is horseback, it reminds of when i road horses as a teenager" reports Kava. So we park & walk up into the woods on a narrow brushy trail to a multitent camp site, with a small campfire in the center, & 3 hippies hunkered down talking quietly over some brunch. They see us with Toby, tieing his horse up to a tree. "This is Kava, Herb & Zeek, i met at the springs lake, just now" Toby introduces us. Hi, I'm Karli; I'm Cedar, I'm Ocean" who says, "Butterfly is sitting ina giant tree at the timber killing now, we'll go up there later, welcome to our funky camp". We chat friendly, while we scope them out, wonder about a dozen things in Earth First actions we're heard lots about in the underground, which get rare news media attention. Zeek is playing with the dog as Kava is eyeing the horse. Do you drink coffee, tea or water? want some?" one asks us. "Sure I'll take tea, water for me, none thanks we answer" getting cups they hand over in new friendship.. "You know what gets me, is the toilet paper, tissue, paper towels & wipes to clean up America anal fears of dirt they kill forests for the neat sanitary image of pure white!" rages Cedar. "Cedar, you expect everyone to be funky like you are, It'll never happen, unless the electric grid goes down & no more toilet paper, newsprint & cleaners to rescue their brown ass." retorts Toby. "I've heard that many are storing up cleaning paper for the Y2k crash, just in case of emergency in town" says Karli. "I kinda wish it'd crash & stop the clear cutting, so we can do some real gardening, not have to fight the foresters, who lie with science, cops & government thru mass media mouth pieces of rationalized murder. It's just another war game we play to save the wonderful woods" raves Ocean. "I've learned more about nature in the last 4 months than i did in 20 years before that, it's great, even tho we struggle with the timber industry, backed by the cops & Forest Service smokies". declare Karli. "I know a couple Forest Servers who are actually on our side, when we don't blame & fight them, they help us, it shows humans can be good, even when they're paid to be bad". emphasizes Cedar. "Has anyone been up to the site to see Butterfly or what? requests Toby. "No, we're just waking up from an all nite campfire" responds Ocean. You mean a full moon party, lets be honest Ocean" requires Karli. "I don't like the beer in the camp, really!" "We're not perfect protesters, we have problems, you know that, it's just hard to relax & play sometimes without a little liquied courage to calm down be loose & sing, knowing I'm gonna fase the beast today......." "if you get over your hang over, we've got to brainstorm, & agree ona clear plan of what to do up there, to help Butterfly sustain her magnificent treesit, thru the next moon, she's done 3 whole mooncycles with our help, I'm so pround of her, God" raves Toby, sounding like a leader of anarchist in rags here. . & food , knowing I'm gonna fac fades Cedar. announces Toby, like a leader.of anarchy wannabes "I wanna dig a hole under the road to get inside of, to stop the lumber trucks, or at least blockade a gate with my head locked to a post or something" laments Cedar over coffee with sugar to get up some energy he hopes. "What I've learned about trees, animals & the watershed here in this bioregion, i can use the rest of my life on earth. I love the wilderness more than anything in the universe, it's my mother, my home, my healing bliss, not matter what happens, I'll work to preserve its unity" raves Ocean.
